Site Help / FAQ / General Procedures

Well, I don't see how any of this can be confusing, I mean, I wrote it and it makes perfect sense to me. But apparently some people are having some "problems" getting around the site and figuring out how some stuff works. This section is dedicated to you all you peeps out there that make programmer's lives hard. Yes, I'm talking about all those darn "end-users".
  • Account Registration vs. Event Registration: The two are simple once you understand the basic differences. Account registration will create a "user account" or "player profile", if you will, on our site. Once you create this account, you will be able to go though event registration. Event registration is where you actually sign up for one of our events or "lan parties". Event registration will get you on the attendee list for a particular event. Account registration is only done once. Event registration is done for each event you wish to attend.

  • How do I create this account you speak of: Well the answer is simple. Click the "Create Profile" link next to the Member Login boxes. You will be taken to a page and asked for various pieces of information. It is important that you fill out this information correctly, as it is what we will reference when you try to check into one of our events. In other words, your name on your account must be the same as the name on the ID you bring to the event. Another important note is that you must provide a valid email account. Your profile will not be activated until you click a link that is sent to the email address you provide when creating an account. Quake 'N Bake will not sell any of your personal information or give it out to any entity. Your information is private, and we respect that. Once you have finished creating your profile and click submit, you will receive an email with a link that will activate your account. Once your account is activated, you will be able to log into the site via the Member Login boxes. Once logged in, you can register for our events.

  • I'm logged in so now what: Well, now comes the easy part. You will see a "Register Now!!" link appear where the "Member Login" used to be. Clicking that link will bring you to a list of events that you can register for (so long as registration is open for any future events). From here, you simply choose the registration options and click submit. That's all there is to registering for an event. You can come back to this page at any time and change your registration options or unregister. Simple wasn't it?

  • Wait a minute, what are all these options: Darn, I thought I was off the hook. Ok, the registration page has a few options to choose from. The most important checkbox on this page is the "Register/Unregister" checkbox. If this box is checked, then you are registered for the event. Un-checking this box will unregister you from an event. You will be able to re-register for an event after unregistering, but you will lose your position in the attendee list (more on that later). The other really important checkbox is the "Pre-pay" checkbox. Checking this indicates that you wish to pay for your attendance ahead of time (before the event). Why would you do that you ask? Well first off, it will save you money. Secondly, it will guarantee you a spot at the event (read the "What's with this attendee list?" info). The other boxes are fairly self-explanatory, and I will only briefly touch on them. The "Attending Day #" checkboxes simply help us determine a head count for each day. The "Day # Food" checkboxes give us a rough estimate on who will want the catered food for each day. Again these are just for out numbers. The "Need Hotel" checkbox is for you out-of-towners that don't want to sleep on the floor with a bunch of geeks. Checking this box will indicate that you want additional information on our discounted hotel rates. After you submit your registration, you will receive a confirmation email and see yourself on the attendee list. You will receive additional email(s) about hotel info and about pre-pay info if you checked the corresponding checkboxes.

  • What is with this attendee list: Ok, this gets a little tricky, but it makes perfect sense once you realize how it works. The attendee list is simply the list of people who have signed up for an event. This list gets broken down into 3 parts. These parts are the Pre-Paid Attendees, Registered Attendees, and Waiting-List Attendees. Pre-Paid attendees are always guaranteed a seat at the event and cannot be bumped down the list. Registered Attendees will have a seat at the event, but they can be bumped down the list by anyone who pre-pays. The Waiting-List contains people above our planned seating capacity. People on the waiting list are not guaranteed a seat ahead of time; however, they will be able to take any unfilled seats that are available at the event.

  • So how can I attend the event if you have already reached your planned capacity: Simple. If you choose to pre-pay during your event registration and get your payment in before the pre-pay deadline, you will be on the Pre-Paid Attendees portion of the list. This will also bump the last person from the Registered Attendees portion of the list down to the Waiting-List. You could also simply register for the event without pre-paying, but you risk not getting a seat by being on the Waiting-List. Only those players who get their pre-payment in before the pre-pay deadline will be moved up to the Pre-Paid Attendees portion of the list.

Rules a.k.a LAN LAWS

I'm confident that there will be no problems in terms of behavior. After all, this is a LAN Party - if you want to yell and scream, we're sure as hell not going to stop you. Just abide by the rules below and use the ol' coconut - you'll be just fine.
  • The entry fee for Quake N' Bake will be collected immediately upon arrival. ID's will be checked against your profile to verify your registration (in other words, be sure your profile name matches your ID). No pay, no play! You will then sign the liability waiver, or turn in your parental permission form and liability waiver. Following that, you will be admitted to the event. Remember, you may pre-pay and save yourself some cash, if you wish. (pre-payment is NOT refundable).

  • Only players that are on the attendee list for the event are allowed to compete in tournaments and win door prizes. Non-registered or "Walk-In" Attendees cannot win prizes or compete in tournaments.

  • Players who are registered for an event and do not show up will not be allowed to pre-pay for the next event and will have to pay the walk-in price. However, they will still be able to register and win prizes.

  • You must own or have access to a computer if you plan on playing - we do not supply computers for attendees. Guests are allowed, but they must check in with the registration desk. Guests are the sole responsibility of the attendee associated with them.

  • Absolutely NO ALCOHOL IS ALLOWED, as there will be minors present.

  • Tobacco is only allowed outside the premises. If you need to smoke or spit or whatever, please take it out back.

  • Non-Alcoholic beverages are great! Feel free to bring cases, coolers, or whatever, just don't spill anything dammit!

  • Pick up your garbage! If you hit Bob's Burgers on the way in, be sure to dispose of any leftover material. Throwing it under the table doesn't count.

  • Respect others and their property. Remember, there will be lots of expensive shit that doesn't belong to you. If it's not yours keep your paws off it.

  • Any problems with these rules may result in removal from the show. Thieves will be taken outside and beaten.

  • Also, we at Quake 'N Bake are not responsible for the following: Damage to your system, loss of peripherals, acts of (insert deity here), deletion of files, stolen items, Toilet Duck, damage to your body and soul, long lines to the can, or any other form of physical, mental, emotional or social disaster. We refuse to take responsibility for the stupidity of human-kind.

  • Quake 'N Bake will not tolerate any theft. Anyone caught stealing will be turned over to the proper authorities and prosecuted to the full extent of the law!!!

  • You must have fun!

  • If you are under 18, you must have our parental permission forms filled out and with you to be allowed admittance to the event.

  • Again, you must bring your ID with you to be allowed entry to the event.

  • The staff at Quake 'N Bake has the final say on everything.

What to Bring

LAN Parties require players to bring a few materials. Have a look see:
  • One computer with a monitor no bigger than 19 inches (If the only monitor you can bring is over 19 inches or you plan on bringing multiple computers, please notify 4T2).
  • Your entry fee. (Cash only!!) No pay, no play, it's as simple as that.
  • A network card.
  • A mouse pad (you'd be surprised how easy this is to forget).
  • Headphones. Speakers are NOT allowed.
  • A power strip, surge protector, or UPS (you only get one power jack).
  • A valid photo ID and if you're under 18, our completed parental permissions/liability waiver forms.
  • Alcoholic beverages are not allowed on the premises, so don't bring any.
  • Network cables, hubs, or any other miscellaneous network equipment you may need. Be sure to label your things!
  • CD's, Installation Disks, and your Driver Disks (a Windows CD is a good idea). We will not supply you with any licensed software.
  • Non-alcoholic beverages are allowed. We may not have enough for you, so bring what you want.
  • Food, or at least the funds to buy it. We will try to supply catered food, however you may not like it.
  • Sleeping bags, blankets, pillows, or anything else you may want if you plan on sleeping at the event. Floors can get quite chilly. We will attempt to get discounted room rates from local hotels for you.
  • Extra peripherals or accessories are always nice, just in case.
  • Any other crap you feel you'll need.
Most importantly, don't assume that you won't need something, as extra materials can be hard to come by!

A Little History- by Chico

Everything you need to know about the LAN group that Kicks Ass!
  • So what the hell's a LAN Party?
What the hell's a LAN Party, you ask? Lend me your ear and I shall speak. A LAN Party consists of a group of gamers gathering in a single location (LAN = Local Area Network), quickly and easily networking their PC's together, and playing their favorite games for hours on end, with near zero latency. Gamers of all skill levels can compete in tournaments to win prizes, chat with other players and do a lot of really cool things like burp and scratch and build monuments out of half empty pop cans so that the hosts have to spend all damn day cleaning up the place and picking up after... well, you get the idea.
Simply put, a LAN Party is a very easy way to play your favorite games without the hassles of online gaming.
  • So what the hell's a Quake N' Bake?
*ahem*, I believe the proper question is Who the hell is Quake 'N Bake. We are a small group of gamers that have, for the most part, been playing PC games together for several years. We started our LAN Party concept several years ago, before we had a name or any sort of organization at all. There were four of us crammed into one room, bitching back and forth at the fact that our coax (!) cables weren't doing shit. We finally got started at about midnight, and commenced to playing Quake and Quake 2 until our freakin' eyes fell out. I slept on the floor, that sucked.

As time went on, we began inviting more and more players over to the same room in the same house. When we finally reached eight, we realized that we needed something a little different, as I was sick of sleeping on the damn floor every time. Months later, we finally rented our first building and hosted what was then called the Midwest Massacre (a name that was apparently too violent, as many colleges refused to post our ads), where we had roughly 25 players. It may not sound like much, but it was truly a milestone for us at the time.

During our "quiet" period we attended a few nearby LAN Parties and had about 100 more "mini-LANs". However, we were busy planning our next large scale event, finally settling on the name Quake 'N Bake. We put a lot of time and hard work into the project, bringing us to where we our now - not to mention the fact that I no longer sleep at these things, thus thwarting that damn floor problem. We're certainly proud of where we are.
  • So who the hell are you guys?
We the hell are, er, we are merely common folk, probably not as dorky as you, but close enough. If you'd like to cuddle with us and get to know us a little better (and you know you do), check out our contact information page or click the member-list link to view our player profiles.

Sheesh, so demanding with your questions!
